Custom smart roller shades are configured around four decisions: fabric, motor, mount type, and measurements. Fabric controls how the room handles daylight and privacy. The motor determines available controls and smart-home compatibility. The mount affects coverage and appearance, while accurate measurements determine fit. Make these choices in that order only after identifying how the room is used. A bedroom, home office, kitchen, and living room may need different fabrics or controls even when the shades share the same color and design style.
Why Customizing Smart Roller Shade Matters
Ready-made shades may limit fabric, sizing, mounting, and control choices. Customization lets you match the shade to the actual window and routine. The goal is not to select every available feature. It is to choose a configuration in which fabric performance, fit, motor, and control method work together.
Graywind's motorized roller shades presents the available fabrics and configurations.

Choose Your Fabric Based on Light Control
Fabric determines privacy and light control.

For complete darkness and energy savings, the Textured Blackout Roller Shades block 100% of sunlight and UV rays. This is ideal for shift workers or parents of young children.
Select the Right Smart Motor
The motor determines connectivity and available controls. Graywind currently lists four main options.

Measure Your Windows Accurately
Use the guide for the selected product because cassette and valance requirements differ.
Inside Mount vs. Outside Mount
For an inside mount, measure the width at the top, middle, and bottom and use the narrowest result. Measure the height on the left, center, and right and use the longest result. Round down to the nearest 1/8 inch. Do not make deductions.
Standard roller shades with a valance require at least 1 7/8 inches of depth, with more needed for a flush fit. Check handles and other obstructions.
For an outside mount, add 2 to 6 inches to the total width, or 1 to 3 inches per side. Graywind recommends mounting at least 3 inches above the window when possible.
Width and Height: Getting the Right Fit
Dimensions vary by series. The current Blackout Fabric Series lists widths from 20 to 109 inches and heights from 21 to 110 inches. Pricing changes with size and configuration.
Measure twice. Graywind's Worry-Free Fit covers eligible roller shades for reasonable measurement differences reported within 30 days of delivery.
Control Options: Remote, App, and Voice
Available controls depend on the selected motor and accessories.
- AEOLUS Remote: Provides 15 channels and timing functions when selected with a compatible shade.
- Graywind App: Supports Bluetooth or WiFi control; some features require a hub.
- Voice Control: Alexa, Google Home, Apple Home, or SmartThings compatibility depends on the motor and supporting device.
These controls work together only when the selected configuration supports them.

Common Mistakes to Avoid When Customizing
- Ignoring the required inside-mount depth.
- Forgetting to add coverage for an outside mount.
- Choosing a motor before checking ecosystem and hub requirements.
- Selecting colors from a screen without ordering fabric swatches.
- Overlooking the Manumatic option when both powered and manual operation are preferred.
Before ordering, confirm the exact fabric, color, opacity, motor, power option, controls, mount type, finished dimensions, and hardware clearance shown in the configuration. Review product terms that apply to measurement support, shipping, and warranty rather than relying on a general article for current policy details.
