Do I need a Smart Bridge or Hub?
Do I need a Smart Bridge or Hub?
It depends on the motor type and how you want to control your shades.
A Smart Bridge / Hub is an accessory, not a motor. It may be required for voice control, schedules, routines, group control, or remote access depending on your setup.
- Bluetooth Motor works directly with the Graywind app at home. Choose Bluetooth Hub if you want to connect to Alexa or Google Assistant.
- Zigbee Motor works directly with Alexa devices that have a built-in Zigbee hub. Choose Zigbee Hub if your Alexa device does not have built-in Zigbee, or if you want to connect to Google Assistant.
- Hardwired WiFi Motor does not require a Smart Bridge for Alexa or Google Assistant.

Which motor works best with Alexa?
Which motor works best with Alexa?
For most Alexa users, we recommend the Zigbee Motor.
If your Alexa device has a built-in Zigbee hub, the Zigbee Motor can connect directly to Alexa. If your Alexa device does not have a built-in Zigbee hub, choose the Zigbee Hub to connect your shades with Alexa.
If you prefer continuous wired power, check whether the Hardwired WiFi Motor is available on the product page. Hardwired WiFi Motor supports Alexa and does not require a Smart Bridge.
Can I control Graywind shades with Google Home?
Can I control Graywind shades with Google Home?
Yes, but the recommended setup depends on the motor type.
For battery-powered smart shades, choose the Zigbee Motor + Zigbee Hub to connect with Google Assistant.
If the product offers a Hardwired WiFi Motor, it can support Google Assistant directly without a Smart Bridge. This is the better choice if continuous wired power is your priority.
Bluetooth Motor requires a Bluetooth Hub if you want to connect to Google Assistant.
Does Graywind work with Apple Home or Matter?
Does Graywind work with Apple Home or Matter?
Yes, select products offer Matter Motor.
Graywind Matter Motors are Matter over Thread, which means they require a compatible Matter controller with Thread Border Router. This may include compatible Apple Home, Alexa, Google, or SmartThings devices that support Matter over Thread.
Choose Matter Motor if you want Apple Home control or a multi-platform smart-home setup. Matter Motor availability depends on the motor options shown on the product page.
Can I use SmartThings, Home Assistant, Hubitat, or my own Zigbee hub?
Can I use SmartThings, Home Assistant, Hubitat, or my own Zigbee hub?
Yes, the Zigbee Motor is the best choice if you already use a compatible Zigbee-based smart-home setup.
If your existing hub supports the selected Zigbee Motor, an additional Graywind Zigbee Hub may not be needed. Compatibility can vary by hub model, app, and setup, so please confirm your system before ordering.
We still recommend adding a remote for setup, daily control, and backup control. Remotes are sold separately.
